The Learning Resource Centre reopened this month after a refurbishment over the summer. The bookstock is the same; almost everything else has changed. There are forty more study spaces, the mezzanine is open again, and the lighting no longer makes everyone look unwell.
The single biggest improvement, according to the students who have been using it, is silence. The new layout separates the group-work tables from the silent floor properly for the first time, which means the people who want to talk and the people who want to work no longer have to negotiate.
The furniture was funded by the Friends of SWGS out of the 1000 Club and two years of fair takings. Photographs of the new space are in the galleries, and the Friends' page explains how the 1000 Club works if you would like to join it.
