If you are a parent or carer at South Wilts you are already a member - there is nothing to join and nothing to pay. The Friends are the school's PTA and a registered charity, and everything raised goes straight back into the things the school budget will not stretch to: the LRC furniture, the practice room pianos, the food technology rooms, the netball squad's travel.
The programme runs from January to September 2027, and every part of it is open to alumni, parents, staff and friends. More...
The archive is strong on the 1930s and thin on everything since. We would like to fix that before July. More...
The old tennis court becomes a garden, to a design drawn by an alumna who left in 2010. More...
Twenty tables, a hundred and fifty students and eight minutes a table. It is the most useful hour the sixth form gets all year and it depends entirely on alumni turning up. There are no talks and no panel. Students move between tables in small groups and ask whatever they like, … Read more
The Friends' biggest afternoon of the year: forty stalls in the hall and the dining room, a tombola that takes more than anyone expects, and the school choir at two o'clock. It raised GBP 4,200 last year, every penny of which went back into the school, and it is run entirely by … Read more
The centenary year opens here. The Head sets out the programme for the whole of 2027, the Centenary Fund appeal launches formally, and the first of the archive display goes up in the Main Hall. It is a short evening by design - drinks from six thirty, speeches that finish by eig… Read more
Fifty years since the class of 1977 left, and the reunion falls in the centenary year, which makes it the one everybody has been counting towards. Lunch in the dining hall, a tour for anyone who wants one, and the 1977 photographs out on the tables rather than behind glass. Two … Read more
The alumnae side has lost this fixture four years running and shows no sign of learning from it. The school squad is through to the regional finals this season, which is unlikely to help. Two sevens, four quarters, and a squad that is picked on the afternoon from whoever turns u… Read more
The summer version of the autumn coffee morning, held outside if the weather allows and in the common room if it does not. This one falls three weeks before the Centenary Festival, so there will be a table of Festival information and someone to answer questions about tickets, pa… Read more
The centre of the centenary year, and the one date to put in the diary if you only come to one thing. The whole site is open from eleven until late. The archive exhibition runs all day in the hall. The decade tents on the field are the part people talk about afterwards - one per… Read more
The centenary year closes where the school has marked its anniversaries since 1952: Salisbury Cathedral, on a Saturday afternoon in September. The service is about an hour. The school choir sings, current students and alumni read, and the address is given by a former pupil. It i… Read more
The committee meets a few times a year and anyone is welcome, whenever they can come. Most people help at one event and find they enjoy it - running a stall, baking, setting up, driving, or simply being there on the day.
GBP 12 a number, twelve monthly draws, and the rest to the school. Each number costs twelve pounds and goes into twelve consecutive monthly draws - a first prize of GBP 100, a second of GBP 50 and a third of GBP 25. Everything left over pays for the school's enrichment. If every family held one number we would raise more than GBP 800 a month.
